Bill: Oaths of Office Act

THE OATHS OF OFFICE ACT, 1658
To provide for the manner in which Oaths of Office are to be subscribed, and for other purposes;

BE IT ENACTED, therefore, by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Burgesses in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

ARTICLE ONE. Citation.
This Act shall be officially cited as the Oaths of Office Act, 1658.

ARTICLE TWO. Prerequisite before assuming office.
No person shall assume any office or appointment under Her Majesty, or Her Majesty's Government, without first subscribing to the Affirmation of Loyalty as provided in accordance with this Act, in the presence of an administering official and at least two witnesses of sound mind who are not related to the subscriber of the Affirmation and the administering official. Oaths shall be subscribed verbally and in writing, with certified written copies to be provided to the administering official and to the Lord Chancellor.

ARTICLE THREE. Administering Official.
Oaths may be administered by the following officials:

a. The Great Officers of State
b. The Prime Minister
c. A Minister of Her Majesty's Government
d. A Justice of Her Majesty's Court of Common Pleas
e. The Lord Mayor of Her Majesty's Royal District of Zalae
f. The Chancellor of Her Majesty's Royal District of Zalae
g. A Governor of a State
h.  The Speaker or Moderator of a Civic Assembly
i. The Secretary or Clerk of a Civic Assembly
j. The Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization

ARTICLE FOUR. Fee.
A fee of 10 Laurels shall be paid to Her Majesty's Treasury prior to the subscription or administration of any oaths in accordance with this Act.

ARTICLE FIVE. Commencement.
This measure shall not become law until it has received Royal Assent.



FIRST SCHEDULE

Affirmation of Loyalty

I, A.B., do solemnly and sincerely affirm and declare that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I, Her heirs and successors according to law.

(NOTE- The name of the King or Queen for the time being is to be substituted from time to time.)
